Hamas announces its intention to participate in the elections as part of the broadest Palestinian national alliance

Hamas announced its keenness to participate in the upcoming legislative elections within the broadest possible Palestinian national alliance, considering that the elections represent an opportunity to build a consensual political system in which various forces participate.

Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem stated that this approach aims to pave the way for a unified national leadership to collectively manage Palestinian affairs, given the challenges facing the Palestinian people and their cause. He added that the movement is keen to participate in the upcoming legislative elections within the broadest possible Palestinian national alliance, considering the elections an opportunity to build a consensual political system in which all Palestinian factions participate.

Qassem's remarks come at a time when preparations are continuing for the elections scheduled for November 28, 2026, amid efforts to form an electoral bloc that includes, in addition to Hamas, the Islamic Jihad movement, the reformist current in the Fatah movement, led by Mohammed Dahlan, and other Palestinian currents and figures, according to Palestinian sources.

These developments also coincide with talks being held by Palestinian factions in Cairo to discuss the political and logistical arrangements for the electoral process.

For their part, the Palestinian resistance factions affirmed their support for forming the broadest national alliance to contest the legislative elections, considering the electoral process an opportunity to strengthen national unity and political partnership and end the division.

The factions called for ensuring the participation of various Palestinian forces and components, respecting the popular will and resorting to the law and institutions, urging the Palestinian people to participate actively and responsibly in the elections.

The statement stressed that Jerusalem will remain a unifying national constant, rejecting the occupation’s attempts to change its character and identity, and emphasizing the need for the elections to contribute to organizing the Palestinian house and unifying efforts to confront the occupation and aggression, in a way that ensures the existence of national institutions that express the will of the people and protect their rights.

As part of the preparations, the Palestinian Central Elections Commission announced an update to voter data, noting that the registration rate in the West Bank governorates had risen to 87.2%, including more than 1.62 million voters, while confirming that voters in the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem retain their electoral rights without needing to register again.
