A Hamas official confirmed on Saturday that the Palestinian movement remains ready to implement the Gaza agreement, which stipulates its disarmament , and called on the US administration to pressure Israel to compel it to implement its part.
The official, who asked not to be named, said that “Hamas is demanding that the US administration put pressure on Israel to compel it to abide by the agreement, implement it, and move to the second phase.”
He added that “Hamas and the factions confirmed to the mediators and the Peace Council their readiness and preparedness to begin implementing the agreement and moving to the second phase, provided that the Israeli side agrees to the agreement and that Israel begins implementing the agreement and fulfilling the requirements of the first phase.”
He stressed the need for Israel to implement the terms of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement, “foremost among them being the cessation of attacks, withdrawal to the yellow line, and the entry of aid in sufficient quantities.”
Hamas informed the mediators that it is still awaiting a clear and official response from Israel and the Peace Council, represented by the Council's High Representative, Nikolay Mladenov, regarding what was agreed upon.
He added that “Hamas demanded that the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza be expedited to assume its duties in managing the sector and to begin relief, recovery and reconstruction projects.”
Another Hamas official said the movement “informed the mediators that it is still waiting for a clear and official response from Israel and the Peace Council, represented by the Council’s High Representative, Nikolay Mladenov, regarding what was agreed upon.”
He stressed that Hamas “is committed to the agreement, which includes the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, including matters related to the inventory, collection, and storage of weapons,” emphasizing that “Israel must commit to implementing the agreement and not delay or obstruct it.”
A Hamas delegation left Cairo for Istanbul on Thursday “to hold consultations” with the movement’s leadership, according to one of its officials.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that Israel had not agreed to the draft peace plan presented by the Middle East Peace Council. Last week, Trump welcomed Hamas's agreement to disarm under the plan, calling it a breakthrough, while the Middle East Peace Council confirmed that Israel would simultaneously undertake a phased withdrawal from a large part of the Gaza Strip.
According to the text of the agreement concluded by the “Peace Council” of US President Donald Trump, who was the first to announce it a week ago, Israel and Hamas must stop their military operations.
The agreement also stipulates a “gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the areas they still control in Gaza,” and the “dismantling of armed groups,” including Hamas.
On the ground, Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip have decreased in the past 48 hours , according to a security source.
The source said, “The occupation continues its aggression, and we do not trust it, despite a relative decrease in the scale of the bombing in the past two days.”
On Saturday morning, three Palestinians were wounded by Israeli army gunfire near the Hamad residential city northwest of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.
The three injured people were taken to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, according to the hospital's emergency and reception department.
