FC Barcelona has announced the departure of one of its first-team players on loan as part of preparations to develop and restructure the team ahead of the new 2026-2027 season.
Barcelona is preparing to continue its brilliance in domestic competitions, most notably the Spanish League, as it is the champion of the last two editions.
The Spanish football league season is scheduled to start later in August, with Barcelona and Real Madrid beginning their campaigns in the second round due to several of their players reaching the semi-finals and final of the World Cup.
Barcelona have announced the departure of German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen on loan to Dutch club Ajax on a one-season contract, until June 30, 2027.
The official Barcelona website said that this loan is the second for German goalkeeper Ter Stegen, as the first was last January to Girona.
Despite his vast experience, the German goalkeeper was absent from his country's squad for the 2026 World Cup after participating in three previous editions as a substitute for the legendary goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, with whom he won the 2014 World Cup title, while Germany exited the last edition in the round of 32 against Paraguay.
Ter Stegen’s last international appearance was in June 2025, during the UEFA Nations League Final Four, leaving him with 44 international caps for the German national team.
