Real Madrid's reaction to the Champions League draw

Real Madrid faces a major challenge in this year's competition after two consecutive seasons in which they were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

The draw resulted in tough matches for Jose Mourinho's team , including games against Arsenal, Inter Milan, PSV Eindhoven, Roma, Leipzig, Shakhtar Donetsk, LASK and AEK Athens.

Emilio Butragueño, Real Madrid 's director of institutional relations, spoke about the team's impressions regarding the Champions League group stage draw.

Butragueño, who attended the draw ceremony in Monaco representing Real Madrid, said in comments published by Movistar: "The tournament is always very difficult."

He added: "Every match is tough and highly competitive. We must have the right mentality and deliver the required performance on the field. We are entering this tournament with great enthusiasm and will do our best to qualify, as is our custom."

He continued: "The goal is to finish the league stage in the top eight positions to avoid the initial knockout round and qualify directly for the round of sixteen amidst all the usual excitement."

36 teams will participate in the new season of the Champions League, just as in the previous edition, after the system was changed.

Each team will meet 8 different opponents, with 4 matches at home and 4 away, according to the rules stipulated.
