The stands of the "Spotify Camp Nou" stadium witnessed a tense atmosphere during the match between Barcelona of Spain and Al-Ahly of Egypt, within the competitions of the Joan Gamper Cup, after clashes broke out between a number of fans of the two teams.
The Catalan newspaper "Sport" reported that dozens of Egyptian fans were expelled from the stands due to clashes with Barcelona supporters, noting that the Catalan regional police had to intervene, before taking over, in cooperation with private security personnel, the escort of the Red Devils' fans out of Camp Nou.
Video footage showed moments when security personnel forcibly intervened to remove those involved and expel a number of them outside the stadium walls.
The reasons that led to the outbreak of the clashes have not yet been officially clarified, and there is no reliable information about serious injuries resulting from the events.
The incident occurred on a celebratory night marking the return of the Joan Gamper Trophy to the Camp Nou stadium, but it cast a shadow over the match, which ended with Barcelona defeating Al-Ahly 2-1.
Egyptian Hamza Abdel Karim opened the scoring for the Catalan side in the 30th minute against his former team, before Rafinha added a second from the penalty spot just before halftime. In the second half, Ahmed Sayed "Zizo" pulled one back for Al Ahly.
Barcelona maintained their lead until the final whistle, despite being awarded a penalty in the final minutes, which Anthony Gordon missed after Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy made a brilliant save.
The events in the stands spoiled part of the festive atmosphere of the match, which was Barcelona's final test before the start of their new season in the Spanish League.
