ABS-CBN News, citing Philippine police, reported that at least two people were killed and nine others injured in a shooting at a school affiliated with Ateneo de Zamboanga University in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines.
According to their data, the identity of the attacker is being verified.
According to the Manila Bulletin, a student was live-streaming the shooting, and footage from the scene showed an unidentified individual firing at schoolchildren. The suspected attacker reportedly committed suicide.
For his part, Mayor Jaimir Adán Olasu said that a high school student killed his classmate and then committed suicide.
Zamboanga Mayor Khimer Adan Olaso stated that the suspect appeared to have a camera attached to his jacket to livestream the attack at the Second School on the campus of Ateneo de Zamboanga University in his city. He added that two other people were injured.
The suspect initially shot a teacher, but it was unclear whether the teacher was hit. DZBB radio quoted Olaso as saying he then shot and killed a colleague before turning the gun on himself.
Hundreds of students were evacuated to safety after gunshots rang out inside the high school building, which is located on a secure campus separate from the larger campus of the Catholic University, where its colleges and vocational schools are located in the coastal city of Zamboanga.
A few hours after the shooting, police said the situation was under control. They asked parents and guardians to remain calm and follow the high school's instructions and arrangements for picking up their children.
National Police Chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said: "Authorities are currently working to determine the circumstances of the incident."
