Zverev was eliminated in his opening match at the ATP Masters 1000 Montreal

Top seed Alexander Zverev had to end his run early at the ATP Masters 1000 National Bank Open Presented by Rogers in Montreal, Canada, after being defeated by Dutch tennis player Tallon Griekspoor 6-7(3), 6-2, 6-4 in the second round.

The defeat was a surprising result, considering it was Zverev's first appearance since reaching the Wimbledon final last month. For Griekspoor, it was his third victory over the world number three and his third over a Top 5 player.

"This is one of the most special wins I've ever had. This season has been incredibly tough for me. I even nearly gave up a few times. However, I've been working harder lately and feel like my game is improving again in practice. I'm sure it's just a matter of time," Griekspoor said,..

"This win feels very special, especially against a player like Sascha."

Griekspoor, currently ranked 69th in the world, came into Montreal with just one win in his last eight tour-level matches. However, the former world number 21 rallied with a solid performance to secure his place in the third round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament.
