The newly discovered species, however, has been found to mimic a deadly parasitic fungus. Researchers identified it in the Amazon rainforest of Ecuador, where it convincingly played the role of a dead spider infected with the parasitic fungus.
According to the first scientific documentation of a spider mimicking a pathogenic parasitic fungus that infects spiders themselves. This discovery therefore offers valuable insights into how biomimicry evolves and the ecological roles such adaptations can play.

From a casual observation to a rare scientific discovery
The story of this discovery began with an observation published on the "iNaturalist" platform, which specializes in monitoring and documenting living organisms by the public. Observers initially thought they had spotted a fungus, before it was later revealed that the organism was actually a spider, prompting more detailed scientific studies.

The iNaturalist platform not only connected us with experts from different disciplines who helped us interpret this exceptional observation, but also revealed that this case is probably not unique, which broadened our understanding of this exciting type of simulation."
After finding an individual of this spider in its natural environment, it was confirmed that it represented a new species by comparing it to specimens preserved in museums, which led to the discovery of a similar specimen in the Museum of Natural History in Hamburg, Germany, which had been collected in Bolivia in 1903, thus strengthening its classification and confirming its extreme rarity.
This spider was then examined and studied scientifically, leading to its identification as a new species named "Taczanowskia waska" in honor of the Waska Amazonia Foundation, the organization on whose territory the species was found. Information about it remains very limited.
The genus *Takzanovsky* itself is relatively rare and still not sufficiently understood scientifically. Most aspects of its natural environment and behavior remain mysterious, partly due to the rarity of sightings of spiders belonging to this genus in their natural habitats.
