Rehabilitation physician Abdul Qader Hamawi told the Russian news agency Novosti that maintaining regular physical activity after the age of 45 is more important than the intensity of the exercises.
He said that this helps maintain strength, mobility, and overall health for a longer period.
Hamawi, who runs a private rehabilitation sports center in Beirut, said: "After the age of 45, it's important to stay active and maintain strength and mobility. Therefore, it's not necessary to do strenuous or high-intensity exercises." According to him, this recommendation applies especially to people over 60.
According to the expert, it is beneficial to walk daily and perform resistance exercises two or three times a week to maintain muscle mass and bone strength, including squats, pull-ups and push-ups, as well as leg exercises.
Hamawi also recommended performing balance, flexibility and joint movement exercises regularly, and choosing brisk walking, cycling or swimming as cardio exercises, according to the person’s physical abilities.
The rehabilitation expert said: "It is important not to sit for long periods and to try to move more during the day."
He stressed that no single exercise can prevent all diseases, but consistent physical activity, along with proper nutrition, adequate sleep, and regular checkups, greatly helps in maintaining health and reducing the risk of many age-related problems.
