Artificial intelligence occupied a large part of the discussions held by world leaders at the United Nations summit currently being held in New York State , whether the discussions were within the general debate of the 81st session or in sub-sessions on the sidelines of the session.

Artificial intelligence was present from the opening speech delivered by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres , who kicked off the summit, followed by US President Donald Trump , then French President Emmanuel Macron and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan .
Some presidents, such as Macron and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, also gave interviews and held side meetings with the news agencies that were present at the summit, which began yesterday, September 22, and continues until September 28.
The different viewpoints adopted by the heads of state showed a clear divergence in each country’s approach to artificial intelligence. While Macron called for international cooperation regarding the technology, Trump categorically rejected any global project to control artificial intelligence.
Artificial intelligence is not an American decision.
The French president began his speech by calling for international cooperation to build an advanced, open-source artificial intelligence model that is shared by everyone, noting that this model does not depend on the two superpowers, whether it be the United States or China .
He added that there are those who want to convince the world that there are only two powers that will make decisions regarding technology, namely the United States and China, then he repeated.
Macron explained that regulating artificial intelligence should not be left to the United States, China, and a handful of private entities, describing the technology as a threat to the security of countries, hospitals, and global banks.
He also praised the path taken by the European Commission to establish laws regulating the artificial intelligence sector, stressing that it should continue on this path and not back down from it.
He concluded by saying, "We shouldn't wait until the consequences of artificial intelligence overwhelm us; we must act now."
In a separate on the opening day of the summit, Macron explained that dealing with the risks of artificial intelligence should not be a decision for the United States alone.
He stressed that this decision requires a genuine and open discussion between the United States, China, Europe, and the rest of the world, in order to address the excesses and various risks of artificial intelligence.
Macron added that regulators must distinguish between halting the development of advanced models and disrupting innovation on the one hand, and dealing effectively with the misuse and risks of artificial intelligence on the other.
