Egyptian Member ofParliament, Hossam El-Mandouh, treasurer of Zamalek Club, stated that he will present the files of his rival Al-Ahly Club’s contracts with its players to Parliament for oversight.
Several local media outlets quoted Al-Mandouh as saying in a television interview: “There is a player who asked us (Zamalek) for 80 million per season, and then we hear that his contract with the Football Association is only 5 million pounds. Is this logical? Of course, I mean Zizo, and there are other contracts like this.”
Ahmed Sayed Zizo’s departure from Zamalek for free caused anger among the club’s management and fans, especially since he had moved to the ranks of the traditional rival, Al-Ahly Club, a year earlier.
Al Ahly has never disclosed the value of Zizo's contract or any other player's, but the club has previously announced the existence of a football company that covers a portion of the players' salaries. Taxes and other fees are supposed to be paid on contracts registered with the Egyptian Football Association, as well as contracts registered with the football company.
Al-Mandouh, a member of the Egyptian House of Representatives, said: "I will raise this issue in parliament, and countries must intervene to monitor player contracts."
He added: "When Hani Abu Rida (President of the Egyptian Football Association) says that some contracts are valid and some contracts are not, this certainly raises questions."
Zamalek club is suffering from a transfer ban imposed by FIFA due to issues related to delayed payments.
Brazilian Juan Bezerra, who helped the team win the Egyptian Premier League title last season, has asked to leave the club and has not yet come to Egypt, despite the season starting weeks ago, but Zamalek is delaying its complaint.
Al-Mandouh said: "There are some situations that require calm and negotiation. We are communicating with him officially and legally on a daily basis in order to reach a solution that is in the best interest of Zamalek, and the player will return within days."
He added that Zamalek informed Bezerra not to talk about his departure until he returns to Egypt first, and stressed that the club's legal position is "one million percent" correct.
