The Indonesian National Border Management Agency is finalizing its plan to manage the Indonesia-Papua New Guinea cross-border by opening the Butmambin Border Post in Papua New Guinea as a counterpart to the Yetetkun Cross-Border Post , Boven Digoel Regency, South Papua.
Nurdin, Deputy for State Border Management at the Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency , stated that the development of the corridor is also related to the Papua New Guinea Government's need to prepare alternative fuel distribution routes to the Ok Tedi Mining Limited mining area.
"We need to assess readiness from various aspects, not just in terms of crossings, but also connectivity, logistics, security, and the impact on communities in border areas," Nurdin said.
Nurdin explained that the plan still requires further study through business-to-business mechanisms and cross-ministerial/institutional coordination. The study is necessary to ensure that technical, regulatory, security, and distribution aspects can be met.
"This collaboration needs to be studied comprehensively, including fuel needs, volume, transportation, distribution, and possible routes. Therefore, cross-agency follow-up is necessary," said Nurdin.
