Khachanov, ranked 50th in the world, delivered a remarkable performance that decided the match on "Louis Armstrong" court, on a day when Auger-Aliassime suffered greatly.

The Russian player, who had previously reached the semi-finals of the tournament in 2022, succeeded in breaking his Canadian opponent's serve seven times, and saved 7 out of 9 break point points he faced, thus achieving only his second victory over one of the top ten ranked players in the four Grand Slam tournaments.

With this victory, Khachanov secured his place in the third round of all Grand Slam tournaments within a single calendar year, for the first time in his professional career.

Khachanov said in his post-match remarks on the court: "I noticed that Auger-Aliassime might have been experiencing some physical discomfort... This is part of our sport, and I wish him a speedy recovery and hope he feels better if he is injured. As for me, I tried to do my best and kept fighting until the end, and I am very happy with this victory."
