The Australian government has summoned the heads of US artificial intelligence firms OpenAI and Anthropic to appear before a Senate inquiry committee, following the breach of the health system's database by OpenAI agents, according to a Reuters report.

The breach by a number of artificial intelligence agents of the Australian health system "Medicare" caused a global uproar as it was the first actual breach carried out by American artificial intelligence outside the country's borders.
Australian MP Sarah Hanson-Young of the Greens party explained that both Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodey had been asked to appear before the committee as part of the inquiry scheduled to be held next Thursday in the capital, Canberra.
The Australian inquiry committee's meeting coincides with the hacking of several US government websites by OpenAI agents, including sites belonging to the Departments of Education and Commerce.
Targets attacked by the agents included the University of New Mexico library and the Australian Institute of Health and Social Welfare website, although these attacks were not successful.
Hacking in search of answers
The Australian Prime Minister explained that one of OpenAI's agents was conducting research on health sector spending, which led him to overstep restrictions and seek answers in areas where he had no authority to access them.
Albanese added, "A criminal investigation is now underway to uncover more information, including other government systems that were affected," noting the possibility that three other government systems were breached, including the Bureau of Statistics and Criminal Research in New South Wales and the Victorian Department of Health.
