Russian assault units have begun to be equipped with "Chistulia" portable electronic warfare systems capable of protecting infantry from one of the biggest threats of the modern battlefield: FPV drones.
The system blocks the drones' data transmission, control, and satellite navigation channels.
According to the press service of the state corporation Rostec, the mobile electronic warfare system was developed by engineers and communications experts from the Russian company Rosel.
The system weighs approximately eight kilograms and is housed in a compact case measuring 34 x 28 x 17 centimeters. It is equipped with three types of antennas with independent frequency control and can be powered by the electrical grid or a built-in battery for about 100 minutes. Once activated, it can jam drone control and navigation channels within a range of up to one kilometer, producing a uniform signal that covers the upper half of the globe.
An official statement from the company read: "In addition, this technology can render the reconnaissance mission performed by the enemy drone useless, even if it penetrates the protected perimeter, because 'Chistiulia' blocks the transmission of photographs and videos to the operator's control unit, turning the drone into a black screen flying camera."
An important feature of the system is the ability to operate and control the jamming remotely from a bunker, which increases the safety of its operator.
The statement indicated that testing of this system began in the area of special military operations two years ago. Retired Colonel Viktor Litovkin believes that integrated electronic warfare systems like "Chistulia" are in high demand among frontline soldiers.
The expert told RT that this station is important because it can protect a single soldier, an entire platoon, and combat vehicles. He added that "Chistulia" is a good tool for countering enemy drones.
The expert explained: "Besides the Chistulia, the Russian army has a wide range of integrated electronic warfare systems. The Army-2024 forum unveiled the integrated Sorikat station. The device, which weighs 2.5 kilograms, can be mounted on a military uniform or bulletproof vest and does not restrict the soldier's movement. Sorikat detects enemy drones at a distance of at least one kilometer and jams them from a distance of 300 meters. Its operating time in target detection mode is up to 12 hours, while its operating time in jamming mode is 1.5 hours."
