Tani Gate values the ratification of the Agrarian Reform Bill as realizing justice

The National Executive Board of the Indonesian Farmers and Fishermen's Awakening Movement  believes that the ratification of the Draft Law on Agrarian Reform Regulations into Law by the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) is a breath of fresh air for the struggle to realize agrarian justice.

"The enactment of this law is a response to the people's long-standing demands, and it is a strong legal instrument for resolving structural and long-standing agrarian conflicts," said Idham Arsyad, Chairman of Gerbang Tani.

Idham also believes that the Agrarian Reform Bill is a clear path to correcting the inequality in land control, ownership, use, and utilization that has so far hampered farmers, indigenous communities, and other vulnerable groups.

"We finally have a foundation for making a complete overhaul of past land rights policies, which often marginalized communities and were the root of agrarian conflicts in various regions," he said.

Furthermore, he believes the Agrarian Reform Bill brings new hope because it mandates the establishment of a special institution that will focus on and comprehensively manage the implementation of agrarian reform.

Moreover, he continued, the process of conflict resolution and land redistribution has always been slow and protracted due to alleged deadlocks resulting from overlapping authority across various ministries/institutions.

"The mandate for a special, integrated institution directly responsible to the President represents a remarkable institutional breakthrough. The resolution of inequality and agrarian conflict now has a clear and strong chain of command and is no longer bogged down in convoluted ministerial bureaucracy," he said.

Previously, the Plenary Session of the Indonesian House of Representatives on September 22, 2026, approved and ratified the Agrarian Reform Bill to become a Law.
