Several device owners have posted photos on social media platforms that they say document these changes that emerged after a short period of use, while some of them indicated that their phones look old or worn out despite only a few days having passed since they were taken out of the box.
The iPhone 18 Pro is priced at approximately $1,199, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299, prompting some affected customers to return their devices to Apple and demand a refund or replacement.
The iPhone 18 Pro uses colored anodized aluminum, a technology that allows the pigment to penetrate the metal's porous structure, resulting in a durable, fade-resistant color. However, some users have reported that the area around the camera lenses has begun to develop a lighter, pinkish tint, particularly on black and burgundy models.
An Apple user posted a picture of his phone on Reddit, saying that the area around the camera lenses had become lighter and pinker compared to the surrounding frame. He explained that he had cleaned the phone carefully and found no oils, dirt, or residue on it, and he did not notice any scratches or dents.
The post prompted similar complaints from other users. One said he was experiencing the same problem and intended to contact Apple to have his phone replaced or upgraded to the Glacier color. Another user said his phone was in very poor condition and had already returned it to Apple, while an owner of a black iPhone 18 Pro Max confirmed experiencing the same issue.
In contrast, buyers who opted for the silver or Glacier blue models have not reported similar issues so far. Some Apple users speculated that the problem might be related to dust or oil buildup around the camera lenses, but affected customers said that cleaning the devices did not resolve the issue, emphasizing that the discoloration is not a superficial mark that can be removed by wiping.
One user said the stain disappears temporarily after cleaning, but reappears after a few minutes, leading him to believe the problem is related to the color change of the device itself and not an external factor.
These complaints come after Apple previously faced issues related to the color of some iPhone Pro models. Last year, users reported that their Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro models were turning pink, with reports linking the problem to oxidation caused by exposure to cleaning chemicals or fingerprints.
The iPhone 18 Pro comes with upgrades to the camera, performance, battery, and artificial intelligence, along with new photography features, including a variable aperture, improvements to the "Photo Modes" feature, and enhanced video capabilities. The phone also includes an updated version of the AI-powered Siri voice assistant, part of the Apple Intelligence ecosystem.
