The President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, affirmed that the Qatari participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics is the best in the history of Qatari sports, in statements upon the arrival of the Qatari delegation to Doha on Saturday evening.

Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, Personal Representative of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, presented the recipients of the Qatari delegation, which was crowned with two gold medals in weightlifting and high jump, and a bronze medal in beach volleyball, in an unprecedented achievement in the history of Qatari participation in the Olympics.

In a press statement after the Qatari delegation arrived in Doha from Tokyo, Sheikh Joaan said that the current participation witnessed for the first time the achievement of 3 medals, including two golds for weightlifter Faris Ibrahim in weightlifting, 96 kilograms, and Moataz Barshim in the high jump competition.

In addition, the Qatari beach volleyball team won the bronze medal, which is the first medal for Arabs in a team sport.

He added that this outcome of the medals is very satisfactory, especially as it placed Qatar in first place among the Arab countries participating in the Tokyo Olympics.

The President of the Qatar Olympic Committee stressed that the distinguished results achieved in the tournament are the result of the unlimited support that the sports sector enjoys from the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the great work done by the sports federations.
