The university's investments in the private and public markets helped bring about the increase, which university officials said represented a "fantastic" financial year.

One year ago, Harvard university reported a 7.3% profit for the fiscal year that ended in June 2020,after just months markets plunged due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology said its endowments generated a 56 percent return in the fiscal year that ended in June, rising to $27.4 billion. The American Brown University also stated that its endowments achieved a profit of 52%, rising to $5.9 billion.
