Teten Masduki: The culinary industry has the potential to continue to grow

Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs Teten Masduki said the culinary or food and beverage (mamin) industry has the potential to continue to grow as the national economy improves.

"This happened because the domestic food and beverage industry was supported by the availability of abundant raw materials," he said when opening the 6th National Working Meeting of the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Catering Service Entrepreneurs Association (APJI) as in a press statement, Jakarta, Tuesday.

By seeing the huge market potential, Teten hopes that APJI members and management can capture market opportunities by continuously improving the competitiveness of culinary products.

He believes that the experience and culinary products of APJI that have been running so far have good quality and taste.

However, he continued, to encourage the competitiveness of culinary products, it is not enough to only focus on taste. In a sense, it takes a touch of creativity and courage to build a more open business model.

For this reason, it is hoped that APJI will be bolder in displaying its superior products in strategic places.

"APJI must start to dare to compete with foreign brands. Come on, bring local brands to dominate the local market, we want APJI to build a catering business model that can be replicated anywhere with strong supply chain support," said the Coordinating Minister.

The government is said to be ready to provide support ranging from strengthening brand competitiveness through various trainings, low-cost financing to market expansion.

Currently, the government is said to have launched a low-cost financing policy for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through people's business loans (KUR) with low interest rates. Then it has also built a showcase of MSME products at Smesco Indonesia.

In addition, it has been required for ministries and agencies to allocate a budget of 40 percent to purchase products and services from MSMEs.

"I hope that APJI can make an inventory of its members who have the potential for us to scale up. Because apart from encouraging the culinary industry, we also want to encourage the spice industry, which is also very rich in Indonesia," said Minister Teten.

APJI Chairperson Rahayu Setiowati stated that her party was committed to encouraging the catering service industry to bounce back after being hit by the COVID-19 pandemic through collaboration with the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs as well as relevant stakeholders to encourage increased competitiveness of national culinary products.

"We are ready, what is assigned and ordered by the Minister (Teten) we will immediately carry out an action plan, not waiting for tomorrow. We will be ready to work immediately," he said.

Minister of Finance: Customs fiscal incentives for health reach IDR 8.16 trillion

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani said the customs and excise fiscal incentives for the health sector from January to December 17, 2021 had reached Rp8.16 trillion.

The incentives are mainly given for imported health goods, vaccines, and other fiscal incentives.

"This is because the State Budget in the fields of taxes and customs does not only collect revenue, but also provides incentives and assistance for the economic sector," Sri Mulyani said at the December 2021 edition of the Press Conference on the Indonesian State Budget (APBN) online in Jakarta, Tuesday.

The incentives are given for the import of medical devices amounting to Rp. 1.78 trillion, which is given to the import value of Rp. 9.12 trillion.

He said there were at least three of the largest imported medical devices, namely Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test kits, antiviral drugs, and ventilators.

Furthermore, the vaccine import fiscal incentive is given in the amount of Rp. 6.38 trillion for the import value of Rp. 34.73 trillion.

There were 394.87 million doses of imported vaccines, 49 percent of which were still in bulk form.

Meanwhile, Sri Mulyani added that the fiscal incentive for the business world in the health sector reached Rp. 7.36 billion which was given as additional incentives for Bonded Zones (KB) and Ease of Import for Export Destinations (KITE) facilities.

President Jokowi returned to share bicycles

President Joko Widodo once again distributed bicycles to the people who managed to answer his question correctly.

In the last 5 years, the President said, the Government has issued about 25 million certificates to the public. As many as 41 million other certificates have been prepared and are ready to be given to the public.

The President appreciated all parties who worked hard to expedite the settlement of land certificates for the community.
