To stop the instigators Demands to take action against Hindu calls for the extermination of Muslims in India Following two incidents this month in which Hindu religious gatherings urged the extermination of Muslims "in order to make India a Hindu nation," a group of senior lawyers in India called on their country's government to take action against instigators of hatred and violence. A group of top lawyers in India on Tuesday called on the country's government to take action against instigators of hatred and violence who recently called for the public extermination of Muslims. The lawyers sent a letter to Chief Justice In Ramana, asking him to take action against instigators of violence and hatred following two incidents that witnessed calls for the extermination of Muslims to achieve ethnic cleansing. The message came after members of opposition parties raised questions about Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on the two incidents. And last week, a Hindu religious gathering that lasted for three days in the "Haridwar" area in the state of "Uttarakhand" (north) witnessed calls for the genocide of Muslims and the practice of violence against them. At a separate gathering in New Delhi on December 19, Hindu religious leaders made provocative speeches in which they attacked Muslims and vowed to die or fight to make India a Hindu nation. In their letter, the lawyers said that "these gatherings and calls are nothing but hateful speeches. Rather, they are an open call to annihilate an entire society." They added that "these calls represent a very serious threat to the unity and safety of our country and endanger the lives of millions of Muslim citizens." After videos of the religious gathering spread on social media last week, Indian police filed a case against the former head of the Shiite Endowments Authority in Uttar Pradesh, Waseem Razavi, a recent convert to Hinduism, now known as Jitendra Narayan Tyagi. The police did not arrest anyone in connection with the case, with the exception of Waseem Razavi, accused of giving hate speech during the Hindu gathering, according to local media. The opposition National Congress Party criticized the government against the backdrop of provocative rhetoric against Muslims and attacks on churches, and the silence of Prime Minister Modi. "Haridwar's hate speech, attacks on churches and killings in the name of religion are all advanced symptoms of a society and system of government in a state of free fall," Malikarjun Karh, the opposition leader in the Senate, said Monday. "India has become an example of how quickly democracy can collapse when institutions fail," he added.
