The head of the German Medical Association, Klaus Reinhart, called on "those who are in good health to share their unused medicines with other patients."

On Sunday, the German Medical Association sounded the alarm about a shortage of medicines in the country.

"Those who are in good health should share their unused medicines with other patients," Klaus Reinhardt, president of the German Medical Association, told the Tagesspiegel daily.

"We call on citizens to show solidarity and exchange unused medicines at flea markets to counter the shortage of medicines in the country," Reinhart added.

"The only thing that can help now is solidarity," he noted.

"We need something like neighborhood medicine flea markets," the health official concluded.

Germany is facing supply shortages for a number of medicines due to delivery issues, amid unusually high demand due to high cases of influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and coronavirus.
