Philadelphia Police Chief said on Thursday that seven people, including four teenagers and a two-year-old girl, were wounded in a shooting on a street corner in the city.

The mother of the two-year-old girl was among those seriously injured, Philadelphia Police Chief Danielle Otlow told a news conference, adding that the worst of the injuries was a teenager who was in critical condition.

The shooting started shortly before 6pm local time (2300 GMT) a few hundred meters from a primary school, but Otlow said it did not appear to have started there.

In the United States, one out of every three adults owns at least one weapon, and one out of every two adults lives in a house that contains a weapon, according to US media.
