This came in statements he made on Wednesday during his conversation with parliamentarians in his country, according to what was reported by the German newspaper "Bild".
Pistorius added that Germany lacked armed forces to defend it in the event of an attack.
The German minister stressed the need for his country to fulfill its obligations towards NATO.
He stressed the importance of securing and purchasing weapons and equipment needed by the German army "as soon as possible," as he put it.
German Army Commander Alphonse Maes made it clear in recent statements that the new German special fund of 100 billion euros is not sufficient to fully equip the country's armed forces.
Mace added that the army needs "a real increase towards fully equipped equipment," which is not enough of the aforementioned fund to cover its costs.
A few days after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, the German government announced that it had allocated a special fund to modernize and reform the country's army, to respond to the strategic threats posed by the war and to meet NATO's goals to modernize armies and raise the military spending budget of member states.
While this reform process is still witnessing major delays and political obstacles, the most prominent of which was the resignation of former Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht at a time when reports are increasing about the weakness of the German army and the widespread sagging of its weapons arsenal.
