Scientists are developing an artificial intelligence that detects hidden bleeding during surgeries, Artificial intelligence The Russian Foreign Ministry condemns Kiev's attempts to launch terrorist attacks and affirms Moscow's right to take the most stringent measures Russia has seen for the first time the development of artificial intelligence that detects hidden blood loss in patients during surgeries and intensive care. The artificial neural network processes data from patient monitors, tracking more than 50 physiological and laboratory parameters. Specialists at the Siberian State Medical University have developed an algorithm based on artificial intelligence that will help anesthesiologists and resuscitators measure hidden blood loss. Timely detection of this phenomenon, which threatens with serious complications. “Our innovation is a neural network that processes data from medical devices such as patient monitors, which the patient communicates with during surgery or in the intensive care room,” said Ivan Tolmachev, assistant professor in the Department of Medical and Biological Cybernetics at Siberian State Medical University. "The algorithm based on artificial intelligence helps doctors to predict in a timely manner the serious conditions of patients that are related to latent postoperative blood loss or injuries." It is indicated that hidden blood loss can occur during surgeries, and is often not visible to the naked eye. Even competent doctors sometimes do not record it for a long time, while 3-5 or more medical devices can be connected to critically ill patients in the operating room or intensive care room at the same time, and there can be more than 50 physiological parameters monitored continuously. The patient's condition continues. However, the assistance provided is not timely due to the underlying blood loss and may lead to serious complications. Scientists explained that the artificial neural network almost continuously records and analyzes data received from monitoring devices, through which it can detect hidden bleeding based on medical rates. And in order to train the artificial neural network, a database of more than 40,000 patients who were in intensive care was used. The director of the "Digital Medicine" project of the Russian "Skolkovo" Center for Innovations, Yulia Scheglova, said that the use of artificial intelligence techniques and big data management in intensive care has wide potential to improve the quality of medical care. Although the level of digitization of intensive care in many countries is close to 100%, in Russia the digitization rate of intensive care is no more than 2%. According to the project manager, the innovation of Russian scientists can help the digitization process include hospitals across the country, and it can also contribute to their competition in the global innovation market.
