The Qatar Football Association announced the termination of its contract with national team coach Carlos Queiroz, “by agreement between the two parties.”
The Qatari Federation issued an official statement announcing the departure of the 70-year-old Portuguese coach, expressing its thanks to him for the period he spent with the “Annabi” national team.
Queiroz took over as coach of the Qatari national team at the beginning of this year after the end of his second experience with Iran. He led the first team in 12 friendly matches, the Gold Cup and the World Cup qualifiers. He emerged with five victories and a similar number of losses compared to two draws.
Queiroz previously coached the national teams of Portugal, the Emirates, South Africa, Iran, Colombia and Egypt, in addition to coaching Spanish Real Madrid and Sporting Lisbon.
The Qatari-Spanish Federation assigned Marques Lopez the coaching duties for Al-Annabi, succeeding Queiroz, with him supervising the team during the 2023 Yellow Continent Championship finals scheduled to be held between next January and February.
Marquez Lopez was responsible for training the Qatari club Al-Wakrah, before his services were used to lead the “Annabi” national team.
Marquez Lopez steps in to lead Al-Annabi through the upcoming Yellow Continent Championship.
