Jakarta : The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded the public to be alert for moderate rain to lightning which will shower most of Indonesia's provincial capitals on Tuesday.

The official BMKG website in Jakarta, Tuesday morning, stated that the areas predicted to have moderate rain this afternoon were Serang, Yogyakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Manokwari and Makassar.

Meanwhile, rain and lightning are forecast for the areas of Bengkulu, Surabaya, Pangkal Pinang and Kupang this afternoon.

Several areas are also predicted to experience light rain, including Central Jakarta, Gorontalo, Jambi, Banjarmasin, Samarinda, Bandar Lampung, Ambon, Palembang and Medan.

Meanwhile, several areas are predicted to be covered in cloudy weather this afternoon, including Padang, Kendari, Jayapura City, Mataram, Ternate, Tanjung Pinang and Palangkaraya.

Several areas of the provincial capital are predicted to be sunny and cloudy this afternoon, namely Denpasar, Pontianak, Tarakan, Pekanbaru, Mamuju and Manado.

The city of Banda Aceh is predicted to be sunny this afternoon with a temperature of 23-32 degrees Celsius.

Previously, Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati appealed to the public to be alert and prepared for extreme weather and hydrometeorological disasters which still threaten most of Indonesia until February 2024.

"This extreme weather can occur during the peak period of the rainy season in January and February. The potential for heavy rain up to "very dense, strong winds and high waves still have a high chance of occurring in most parts of Indonesia," he said.
