The Israeli occupation army announced that the body of one of its soldiers has been held by Hamas since October 7, confirming that the number of its dead had risen to 590 since the start of the war, including 249 killed in ground battles in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli army said on Tuesday that the body of one of its soldiers had been held by Hamas in Gaza since October 7.

He said in a statement, "The family of Sergeant Itai Chen (19 years old) from Netanya, a soldier in the 75th Battalion, has been informed that he was killed and (his body) was kidnapped by Hamas."

The Hebrew Broadcasting Authority reported that “the soldier was killed on October 7, and his body is being held by Hamas.”

Thus, the death toll of the occupation army due to the events of last October 7 and the war that followed rose to 590, according to the occupation army’s data on its website.

The occupation army explained that among its dead were 249 soldiers who were killed in the ground battles that began in the Gaza Strip on October 27, 2023.

Hamas did not issue a comment on the Israeli occupation army’s statement regarding Chen’s killing, but it announced in separate statements the killing of a number of Israeli detainees in the Israeli bombing operations on the Gaza Strip.
