The American media network CNN reported, citing its sources, that fishermen discovered what is believed to be a reconnaissance balloon near the coast of the American state of Alaska.
Informed sources told CNN on Friday that the fishermen will hand over the balloon to the FBI after it arrives at a port within the next two days.
According to the sources, the fishermen provided pictures of the balloon to American security agencies.
The balloon is expected to be transported to an FBI laboratory, where it will be analyzed.
It is noteworthy that in February 2023, the United States announced the downing of a Chinese reconnaissance balloon. The Pentagon said at the time that the balloon was collecting intelligence information.
The incident resulted in some tensions in relations between the United States and China, as US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken postponed his scheduled visit to China.
In turn, Beijing accused the United States of spreading misleading information, and said that the balloon was intended for meteorology and entered American airspace by mistake.
