Geert Wilders fails to gain the support of his potential coalition partners to become Prime Minister of the Netherlands

Geert Wilders, an opponent of Islam, immigration and asylum, announced on Wednesday that he does not have the support of his potential partners in the government coalition to become the next Dutch Prime Minister.

Wilders said on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter): “I cannot become prime minister unless all parties in the coalition support it. This is not the case.”

His statements come after Dutch media reported that the progress announced in the coalition talks last Tuesday night was that the leaders of the four parties participating in the protracted coalition negotiations would remain in Parliament.

This increases the possibility of the formation of a technical cabinet of experts.

Although it now appears that Wilders will not lead the government, he and the For Freedom Party will remain the driving force behind the administration after his landslide victory in the November 22 elections.

Wilders added on "X": "I really wanted a right-wing government. Less asylum and immigration. The Dutch people are number one. The love of my country and my voters is bigger and more important than my position."
