Senior officials in a number of international media outlets signed a letter urging the Israeli occupation to protect journalists in Gaza, saying that journalists are working in unprecedented conditions during the Israeli war on the Strip, and they face “grave personal danger.”

Senior officials in a number of international media outlets signed a letter urging the Israeli occupation to protect journalists in Gaza, saying that journalists are working in unprecedented conditions during the Israeli war on the Strip, and they face “grave personal danger.”

Among the media outlets whose editors signed the letter dated Thursday are the Associated Press, Agence France-Presse, Reuters, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), CNN, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Guardian, the Financial Times, Der Spiegel and Haaretz.

About 94 journalists were martyred during the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists, which issued the letter signed by the leaders of 59 news organizations.

The Committee to Protect Journalists said that this war is "the most dangerous ever" for journalists.

“These journalists continue to cover despite grave personal risks,” the letter said. “They continue to work despite the loss of family, friends and colleagues, the destruction of homes and offices, ongoing displacement, the disruption of communications, and the shortages of food and fuel.”

The letter added, "Journalists are civilians, and the Israeli authorities must protect journalists as non-combatants in accordance with international law."
