Prime Minister of Belgium: We will not tolerate demonstrations in support of a terrorist organization such as the PKK

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo confirmed after a meeting of the National Security Council that “freedom of opinion is guaranteed in Belgium, but manifestations or expressions in support of a terrorist organization such as the PKK will not be accepted.”

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo on Wednesday called on the Turkish and Kurdish communities in the country to put an end to the violence that occurred in recent days in various municipalities in the country, explaining that he “will not tolerate demonstrations in support of the terrorist PKK organization.”

De Croo confirmed after a meeting of the National Security Council on Wednesday morning that “freedom of opinion is guaranteed in Belgium, but manifestations or expressions in support of a terrorist organization such as the PKK will not be accepted.”

He added: "Let us stop the violence, these provocations and these demonstrations of support for organizations classified as terrorist," referring to the PKK organization classified as a terrorist organization by Turkey and the European Union.

On March 24, a group of PKK terrorist organization militants targeted Turkish citizens in Belgium, “which led to the injury of a number of Turkish citizens. The attacks did not result in deaths, but some Turkish citizens were injured.”

The Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned the attack, stressing that it was following up on the matter and had contacted the Belgian Foreign Ministry. Minister Hakan Fidan made a phone call with his Belgian counterpart, Hajjah Lahbib, on the same night.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry noted that thanks to the sound position of the Turkish community in Belgium and the effective intervention of the Belgian police authorities, the escalation of events was prevented, noting that the local authorities opened an investigation against the attackers.

The Ministry stressed that these events demonstrated once again that the PKK terrorist organization threatens social peace and public order in Western Europe.
