Jakarta - The Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves) revealed that Indonesia is opening up investment opportunities in the Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) industry.

"Based on studies, Lemigas reaches around 600 gigatons, we can just imagine that Indonesia's emissions per year are less than 1 million gigatons. This means we can store a lot of carbon, so we open up opportunities for crossborder CCS CCS (across national borders)," said Deputy for Sovereignty, Maritime and Energy Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Jodi Mahardi, in a meeting with journalists in Jakarta, Friday.

Jodi revealed that there are already two areas that have the potential to be developed to boost this industry, namely the CCS hub Sunda Asri in South Sumatra and Cilegon, Banten, which is a collaboration between PT Pertamina and the gas and oil company Exxonmobil.

Another project that has the potential to be developed is Tangguh LNG, which is a Carbon Capture Utilization Storage (CCUS) by BP Global.

He said that cross-border investment opportunities will be prioritized from countries that already have reward and punishment policies . implementing carbon taxes, such as Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and South Korea.

“They are looking for opportunities to do crossborder. Of course, we will apply the highest safety standards, such as Pertamina, Exxon and BP, which have been doing CCS for decades. "Of course they have the highest security standards," he said.

Jodi admitted that some time ago his party signed a collaboration with Exxon to invest in the petrochemical ( advanced petrochemical) sector. sector to produce advanced plastics.

In the production process, the company is looking for a strategic location close to CCS in the Sunda-Asri area.
