Schulz added in a joint press conference with the heads of the federal states, in response to a question about the extent to which the eavesdropping scandal on high-ranking German officers affected Germany’s relationship with its allies: “I am confident that the trust between Germany and its allies and friends is so strong that what happened there will not affect "This trust."

Later, the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the German ambassador to Moscow and asked him to provide clarifications about German military personnel planning to target facilities in Russia.
Moscow announced that the content of the conversation between German officers confirms the West's direct involvement in the conflict surrounding Ukraine, and demanded that Berlin provide clarifications.
