Due to the air attack, Myawati residents fled to Thailand

Since the fighting has been intense since the morning of April 20 in the Thai-Myanmar border town of Myawati, residents near the No. 2 bridge have fled to the Thai side.

A resident of Ward No. 5, Mya Watti, told RFA that he was hiding by the banks of the Thani River when the fighting was intense, but he had to flee because of the military council's aerial bombardment.

"They shot one after the other from night to day. From four o'clock in the morning until now. The plane arrived around 9 o'clock and has been waiting until now. At first, the shells did not reach the shore. I can feel by the shore. Now it's coming straight to the head, and the fire is burning and I can't stand it anymore. That's why I came to be where I wanted to be. The Thai army entered this side. They said that there is a place on this side where Thai soldiers are helping.”

On April 20th, at around 4:00 pm, over two hundred residents of Repu village, an agricultural zone near the No. 2 bridge, fled to the Thai side from the Mya Wat side.

A resident living near Bridge No. 2 told RFA that the military council has been firing nonstop with planes since the morning of April 20.

"The situation is that they have been hammering all day since morning. The sound I hear is the plane. The rest are in pairs. One by one. The sounds of drones and bombs. I'm in the creek so I can't look up. The beginning is pure to the stream. Can't look back up. The house is next to the bridge. I was stuck under the bridge that I was avoiding now, so I came across because there was no way I could stay.

On the night of April 19th, the KNLA and its partners began to attack with drone bombs near Bridge No. 2, where nearly 150 military council soldiers who fled from the Khlara (275) Battalion were sheltering.

After this attack, the military council has been firing on planes since the morning of April 20. Thousands of Burmese refugees are waiting to flee to Thailand for refuge. A resident living in Mya Owati Ward No. 5 said that Sitkainsi was shooting continuously with planes and that the situation was getting worse so he had to flee.

"I've been shooting with big balls since morning. I fell towards the shore and came across now. All families. When I was there, I was close to the shore. They attacked us with talabats. When we were close, the situation got worse, so we came across to this side.

Thai soldiers are helping those who cross over to the Thai side, and some Burmese people are also coming to help.

Due to the intense fighting near the Thai-Myanmar border, security forces have been increased along the border on the Thai side.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, Mr. Nikorndej Balankura said that the Thai government is closely monitoring the situation along the border with Thai security organizations to deal with any violation of the country's sovereignty and to ensure the safety of the local people.

He also said that Thailand is supporting humanitarian aid and will continue to provide aid if necessary, and will do its best to return the Thai-Myanmar border situation to normal.
