Cancer is a life-threatening disease, but many types of cancer can be treated if detected early, so it is important to know the main signs to look for.

This is why doctors constantly urge individuals to remain vigilant and notice any unusual signs or symptoms that could indicate cancer.

Cancer Research has released a list of 23 common, and often overlooked, symptoms that could indicate the presence of cancer.

Experts advise anyone experiencing these symptoms to consult a doctor as soon as possible.

One symptom that can only be detected at night is excessive sweating, known as night sweats.

This condition includes profuse sweating that wets sleepwear and bedding, despite sleeping in a cool environment.

Night sweats are usually caused by menopause, anxiety, or certain medications such as stimulants and antidepressants.

Hypoglycemia can also be a cause of night sweats. However, when this symptom is noticed, a medical examination must be performed, as night sweats are listed among 23 typical indicators of cancer.

The 23 symptoms to be aware of include:

- Very profuse night sweats

- Tired

- Unexplained bleeding or bruising

- Unexplained pain

- Unexplained weight loss

- The appearance of an unusual mass or swelling anywhere in the body

-A new mole

- Change in an existing mole

- Skin changes or a sore that does not heal

- A hoarse voice or a cough that does not go away

- Coughing up blood

- Difficulty swallowing

- shortness of breath

- Heartburn or persistent indigestion

- Change in bowel habit (such as constipation, increased stool looseness, or frequent bowel movements)

Unexpected vaginal bleeding (including after intercourse, between periods, or after menopause)

The NHS advises: “It is important to be aware of any new or worrying symptoms. Although it is unlikely to be cancer, it is important to speak to your GP so they can screen. Catching cancer early means Ease of treatment.”
