Kiev announces the destruction of 12 drones launched by Moscow and Russia confirms that 6 were killed in a Ukrainian attack

The Ukrainian Air Force announced today (Monday) that its air defense systems destroyed 12 of 13 attack drones launched by Russia, while at least 6 people were killed in a Ukrainian drone attack on Belgorod, Russia.

The Air Force confirmed, via the Telegram application, that the drones were destroyed over the Sumy region, in northeastern Ukraine. The fate of the plane that was not shot down is not yet clear.

Yesterday (Sunday), Ukrainian officials said that a woman was killed and 24 others were injured in Russian attacks on the city of Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine and the surrounding area.

The regional governor, Oleh Sinyhopov, said in a post on the Telegram application that 6 people were injured in a drone attack during the night on the Osnovyansky district in Kharkiv, the second largest city in Ukraine.

Sinyhopov said that an 88-year-old woman was killed in the bombing of the village of Monachenivka, east of Kharkiv. The woman's body was recovered from under the rubble of a house.

The authorities reported that 3 people were also injured in the bombing.

Prosecutors in the Kharkiv region stated that 15 others were injured in an aerial bombardment of the city center.

Kharkiv withstood a weeks-long Russian attack in February 2022, and has been a frequent target of attacks in the past few weeks.

Russia says it does not target civilian sites, but the attacks have hit residential buildings, schools and medical institutions.

On the other hand, at least 6 people were killed, and 35 others were injured in a drone attack on Belgorod, Russia, according to Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.

Gladkov wrote on Telegram: “Two small trucks transporting employees to their workplace and a Ukrainian army vehicle were attacked by suicide drones,” noting that “six people died and 35 people were injured, including two children suffering superficial wounds.”
