Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets in the final match of IPL 2024 to win the IPL title for the third time. Chasing the target of 114 runs given by Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders, riding on a brilliant half-century by Katesh Iyer (52 not out), crushed Hyderabad by eight wickets in the IPL final and won the IPL title for the third time with 57 balls to spare. Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad, batting first after winning the toss, were all out for 113 runs. Kolkata bowled brilliantly in the title match. Russell took 3 wickets for Kolkata in the match while Mitchell Starc and Harshit Rana got two wickets each. At the same time, Vaibhav, Narine and Varun were successful in taking 1-1 wickets. Hyderabad did not get a good start in the final and the team lost the wickets of both the openers in the first two overs. Hyderabad could not recover from these setbacks and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Pat Cummins was the highest run scorer for Hyderabad by scoring 24 runs. Apart from him, Aiden Markram played an innings of 20 runs. Hyderabad batsmen had performed brilliantly in the league and the team was expected to do the same in the title match, but the team's batting faltered today.
