Trump resorts to the song "Snake" to describe immigrants and their danger

Former US President Donald Trump, who is running for the White House, read the lyrics of a song that he said compared immigrants to snakes, during an election rally in New Jersey on Saturday.

The Republican candidate addressed his supporters who gathered in Wildwood, in one of his first campaign rallies since the start of his criminal trial in New York, saying, “It is a song called Snake and it talks about illegal immigration and how stupid what we are doing now is.”

The lyrics of the song, which Trump recited, tell the story of a woman caring for a weak snake she found before she died from being poisoned by its bite. Trump considered, "This is the story of our country."

The song "Snake", written by an African American, became popular through soul singer Al Wilson in 1968. It does not talk about immigration, but Trump uses its words regularly, and he did so for the first time in 2016, according to the Washington Post.

During his first presidential campaign in 2015, Trump caused shock due to his statements about illegal immigrants, whom he described as “rapists.”

Then he promised to build a huge wall on the 3,000-kilometre border with Mexico, to prevent immigrants from entering American territory, a project that was not completed.
