Dr. Alexander Rudnev, a surgeon and phlebologist, revealed the symptoms of appendicitis, including the less obvious ones. Pointing out the dire consequences of neglecting it and not seeking immediate medical assistance.
According to him, the causes of appendicitis have not yet been accurately determined, and blockage of the appendix lumen with feces or a foreign body are small cases out of the total number of infected people.
He says: “Acute appendicitis is a serious disease that very quickly turns, if not treated, into life-threatening conditions for the patient, such as peritonitis or abscess of the abdominal cavity and retroperitoneum.”
The doctor indicates that the clear symptoms of appendicitis are: pain in the lower right side of the abdomen (in the right iliac region), nausea, vomiting, and high body temperature. Common symptoms include the so-called Kocher symptoms - the pain first occurs in the upper abdomen, then moves and localizes in the lower abdomen on the right.
He says: “The less obvious symptoms for the patient are: pain in the lower back area on the right, and pain extending to the thigh or rectum, as well as in the right hypochondrium and even on the left side of the abdomen. In addition, clear symptoms of nausea and vomiting may not appear, and in cases of Rare, diarrhea and high body temperature, as well as frequent urination and suprapubic pain when the inflamed appendix is located in the pelvic cavity, which leads to confusion with cystitis.
The doctor recommends that you seek medical help if these symptoms appear. Because neglecting appendicitis quickly leads to the destruction of its walls, creating life-threatening complications.
According to him, treatment for acute appendicitis includes surgical intervention to remove it, as most surgeries nowadays are performed by making a hole in the abdomen and using an endoscope to remove it. In neglected cases and complications occur, surgery is performed by making an incision in the abdominal wall in order to remove it. Therefore, it is recommended not to neglect the mentioned symptoms.
