Scientists at Southeastern University of China have discovered that garlic effectively normalizes the level of glucose and cholesterol in the blood.

Nutrients magazine indicates that scientists reached this conclusion after conducting a meta-analysis of the results of 29 previous published scientific studies on the effect of plant products and spices on human cardiovascular health. 1,567 people between the ages of 18 and 80 from different countries participated in this study.

According to the researchers, the trials included healthy people and people with type 2 diabetes, heart disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, myocardial infarction, obesity, high blood pressure, and polycystic ovary syndrome. Study participants took garlic in its natural form, powder form, as well as extract and nutritional supplements.

The results of the meta-analysis showed that eating garlic in its various forms has a positive effect on reducing the level of sugar and cholesterol in the blood.

Researchers believe that the beneficial properties of garlic are due to its ability to accelerate the production of an organic compound called allicin in the body, which normalizes blood circulation, has antimicrobial activity and prevents the formation of triglycerides in the liver.
