United Nations: Israel's attacks on Gaza led to the displacement of three-quarters of the Strip's population

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Tuesday that Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have displaced more than three-quarters of the Strip's population.

This came in a speech during an event organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Council within the framework of Humanitarian Aid Week in New York City.

Guterres pointed out that "Israeli military operations in Gaza claimed the lives of more than 36,000 people in just 8 months, and more than three-quarters of the population were forced to flee repeatedly."

He added, "Serious obstacles to accessing humanitarian aid have pushed people to the brink of famine."

UN data warns of the possibility that the Gaza Strip will witness a famine in mid-July due to the prevention of aid and the restrictions imposed on it by Israel, which controls all crossings and destroyed the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing after controlling it on May 7 last year.

It is worth noting that the “Integrated Food Security Phase Classification” report by international humanitarian organizations stated that “about 96% of the population of Gaza (2.1 million people) face high levels of acute food insecurity.”

Since October 7, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza with absolute American support, leaving about 124,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, in addition to thousands of missing persons.

Israel continues its war despite two UN Security Council resolutions to stop it immediately, and orders from the International Court of Justice to end the invasion of the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, and to take measures to prevent acts of “genocide” and improve the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
