Bandung - The Ministry of Defense confirmed that the TNI ranks have used electric motorbikes produced by PT LEN Industri for regional soldier operations.
"So, for electric motorbikes, they have been distributed to the Army, to Babinsa, including the Escort Unit," said the Head of the Bureau (Karo) of Information and Communication of the Ministry of Defense Secretariat, Brigadier General TNI Frega Ferdinand Wenas Inkiriwang when met by media crews at the PT LEN Industri office in Bandung, West Java, Wednesday.
Frega explained that the use of electric vehicles was implemented to support the government's policy of using new, renewable energy.
In addition, the TNI also supports the government in reducing air pollution so that nature can be well maintained.
However, Frega admitted that all operational vehicles have not been fully switched to electric vehicles. He said this needs to be done gradually.
"Of course, this is also one of the considerations in logistics development," said Frega.
Apart from electric motorbikes, PT Eltran Indonesia, which is part of PT LEN, also produces several electric vehicles, one of which is electric pedicabs.
Director of Operations of PT Eltran Indonesia, Sentot, when met at the same place and time said that the electric pedicab was produced for tourism purposes.
"In the future, we want to market these electric pedicabs for tourism purposes, for the benefit of areas where the nature is related to preserving cultural values in Indonesia," he explained.
