Jakarta - Manchester United's minority shareholder, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, revealed that he would build a new stadium to replace Old Trafford rather than renovating the Red Devils' iconic stadium.
Ratcliffe said that despite Old Trafford's long history, the stadium's condition was no longer ideal to meet the club's needs in the modern era.
"We spent a lot of time considering the pros and cons of renovating the old stadium versus building a new one. Old Trafford is steeped in history, but the structure is no longer optimal," Ratcliffe told the club's website.
"Some parts of the stadium were built at different times and do not fit together well, the roof leaks, access in and out is limited, and the infrastructure is inadequate," he said.
He added that building a new stadium from scratch would be more efficient than renovating Old Trafford.
