Axios reported, citing a US official, that US President Donald Trump is ready to reach a peaceful settlement in negotiations with Iran.
The website quoted the official as saying, "Trump is willing to make concessions in order to reach an agreement."
Another source told the website that if the talks succeed, direct talks between Witkov and Araghchi could take place on the same day or the following day.
Indirect talks are taking place on Saturday between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and US Special Presidential Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff in the Omani capital, Muscat.
In early March, Trump announced that he had sent a letter to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, indicating his preference for reaching an agreement with Tehran regarding the Iranian nuclear program. Later, the US president confirmed that Washington was considering two possible paths to resolving the Iranian nuclear issue—military and diplomatic—expressing his preference for negotiation.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that his country seeks dialogue based on equality and that it should not be threatened on one side and demanded to negotiate on the other. He added, "The United States' behavior toward Iran contradicts its request for negotiations."
