HPV screening should still be done even if you have a single partner.

Obstetrics and gynecology specialist and oncology consultant at Dharmais Hospital, Dr. Widyorini Lestari Hanafi, Sp.OG(K)Onk, said that screening for Human Papillomavirus (HPV) should still be carried out even if you only have one partner (single partner) or if your husband has died a long time ago.

"It takes 15 years for a viral infection to develop into cervical cancer. If your husband dies a long time ago, don't skip screening, because if you're already infected with the virus and your husband dies, cervical cancer could occur," said the doctor known as Wini in a discussion on cervical cancer in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Wini said, the main risk factor for HPV transmission is from intercourse or active sexual intercourse. Even though you only have one partner, the risk of contracting HPV remains. Other risks can also occur in women who have more than one sexual partner can increase the risk of contracting the HPV virus.
