Albanese had faced sharp criticism for her public statements describing Israel's policies against the Palestinians as "ethnic cleansing and genocide," which raised concerns among several countries about renewing her term.
Among its most prominent critics was British MP David Taylor, who accused it of justifying Hamas's attack on October 7, 2023, and of describing Israel as a "settler occupation."
Organizations such as UN Watch, the World Jewish Congress, and the Beitar Zionist Organization also led a campaign to oust her, preparing reports and petitions demanding the end of her term and making threats against her during her visits, including an alleged threat of assault in London.
Despite this, Albanese enjoyed international support that enabled her to continue in her position, even as accusations of Israel's crimes against the Palestinians mounted.
