A Gazan child, with tired features and a pale face, bends over a pile of rotting garbage, searching, with tired eyes, for anything flammable that might give him and his family a chance to cook some food.

The sought-after "treasure"

A child living in a tent, unable to protect him from the summer heat or the winter cold, sees a piece of plastic or wood as a "true treasure," having lost all the necessities of life due to the ongoing war.

According to data from the World Bank, the Israeli aggression has completely deprived the population of the Gaza Strip, meaning they have lost the ability to secure food, water, and the most basic necessities of life.

This grim scene is ever present on the streets of the Gaza Strip. Children and men are seen daily sifting through piles of garbage, sifting through the rubbish with their bare hands in search of a morsel of food to satisfy their hunger. The threat of disease, meanwhile, appears to be little more than a threat of constant hunger and relentless bombardment.

Since March 2, Israel has continued to close the crossings to the entry of food, medical aid, and basic necessities, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis, according to reports from official, human rights, and international bodies.

UNRWA has warned that the Gaza Strip is approaching "extremely severe hunger" as a result of the ongoing suffocating Israeli blockade.

This comes as the population has yet to recover from a previous bout of hunger, after Israel reduced aid to the Gaza Strip during the year and a half of the offensive, depriving hundreds of thousands of families of their free food rations.
