Max Verstappen wins at Suzuka, McLaren duo take 2-3


Jakarta - Red Bull racer Max Verstappen became the winner of the 2025 Formula 1 (F1) Japanese Grand Prix after leading the main race at the Suzuka Circuit on Sunday.

Verstappen took his first win of 2025 with a time of 1 hour 22 minutes 6.983 seconds. This victory makes the Dutch driver dominate Suzuka for the fourth time since 2022.

"Max Verstappen scored his first win of the 2025 season with a brilliant performance in P1 of the Japanese Grand Prix," wrote the official F1 website, quoted Sunday.

The four-time F1 champion was victorious at Suzuka, beating the McLaren duo who dominated the first two rounds, in Australia with winner Lando Norris and in China with winner Oscar Piastri.

Verstappen, who also took pole, was 1.423 seconds ahead of Norris in second and 2.129 seconds ahead of Piastri in third. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc was fourth and then Mercedes' George Russell.

The win moves Verstappen closer to Norris, who leads the standings with 62 points. Verstappen's 25-point haul in Suzuka moves him to 61 points in second place, 12 points ahead of Oscar Piastri in third.
