Meta uses AI to detect fake user ages on Instagram.

 Meta announced that it is using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to detect teenagers and children who fake their age on Instagram to avoid the content restriction system for underage users.

If Meta finds an account that is suspected of belonging to a teenager, it will automatically be placed into the restricted Teen Accounts category, even if the birth date listed indicates an adult age.

As reported by Tech Crunch on Tuesday, the Teen Account feature launched on Instagram last year provides a user experience with special protection for teenage users.

This security feature is automatically activated and limits who can contact the account and the type of content that can be viewed. For users under the age of 16, changes to settings can only be made with parental permission.

Instagram has actually been using AI to estimate users’ ages for a long time. Now, they’ve publicly confirmed that the technology is also used to ensure that teens are accessing Instagram through Teen Accounts, not fake adult accounts.
